Full Critical Reflection

After a lot of long days and learning I finally have a website that I feel has achieved the targets that this project set out for me. From day one this project looked set to be a challenge that I was not looking forward too, however I can say that it has somewhat surprised me. I had never touched coding and did not have the slightest clue what HTML and CSS even consisted of, but I can safely say now I am far more educated.

I started my journey on free code camp, completing the introduction sections to both HTML and CSS, which was a great help and gave me a base level of knowledge. The sessions with Mark then began and he walked us through step by step the likes of HTML, CSS and CSS grid which was all crucial to my development of my skill with code. The template was then given to us, and this proved to be a game changer for myself, as I studied it and learnt from the code Infront of me and used this to further my knowledge.

Once I began populating the template with my content, I wanted to make changes to separate mine from the template, and closer to my XD plan I had drawn up. To do this I used external resources, with W3schools being the main go to site for me. To say this was all plain sailing though wouldn’t be true, I had many struggles, with hours sat attempting to write various lines of code with little to no success, which at times did get me down, however I refused to sit back and struggle, I continued to push forward with the development of my website and overcome as many challenges as I could. I also made sure I was an ethical designer with regards to this website, by making sure I did all ‘alt’ tags as Mark stated this was important for a website to be regarded as ethically designed.

Upon reflection there are elements that I haven’t been able to quite overcome just yet, as I would probably like to involve more interaction within my website. This would have been a challenge that would have been far too time consuming within the project timeline and so I decided to focus more on the objectives at hand surrounding content and focus on the HTML and CSS of my website. Moving forward though I would like to see myself progress this website and tailor it ever more to my style as I develop as a designer.

To sum up, I feel that I worked hard and produced an all-round successful website that shows off my four projects, and presents me as a young aspiring graphic designer, always looking to develop as a creative. I faced my fair share of challenges throughout the project, but I fought this by turning up to all the sessions, getting my head down and working hard to understand the language of coding to a point where I can create a website, I can call my own.
